Explore quarries in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and beyond!

Members are invited to travel to working sites to collect minerals and fossils.  Trips generally happen on Saturdays between April and November, depending upon weather conditions.  Our club values the safety of all participants.  We also enjoy seeing what is around the next boulder and bragging about what we find - even if it is too big to haul back home.

  Requirements are:

  • club membership
  • safety gear (hard hat, steel- toed boots, long pants, safety vest and goggles)
  • annual completion of MSHA safety training
  • solid rock tools, a keen eye and a sense of adventure are recommended

Contact the field trip coordinator at a meeting to find out more.  Happy hunting!

Our club follows the national code of ethics for specimen collecting:

Field Trips

The club enjoyed many field trips this past season including parts of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and New York.  Great finds were shared at our annual Brag Night, the September club meeting and some will be for sale at the Silent Auction at the Holiday Party this December.

A special thanks to our field trip coordinator in making these trips possible for collectors.  The willingness of quarry owners to allow collecting on their sites has declined over time. With the joint effort of the owners, our coordinator and our participants following MSHA safety rules, we continue to enjoy field collecting.
